Guy Boucher

As I was alerted of the Jack Adams memorial finalists, I was forced to read the list over many times. I saw Barry Trotz, yes the Predators are frankly awful besides for Shea Weber, Ryan Suter, and Pekka Rinne, and they continuously make the playoffs. But Dan Byslma and Alian Vingleault? Their rosters are stacked and would be up for the worst coach of the year if their teams didn't achieve what they did. Where is Guy Boucher? He turned Tampa from hard to watch to cup contenders. A team that finished 25th in the league a year ago is now 2 wins away from reaching the finals. Instituting the deadly 1-3-1 and demanding team unity and commorodory, the Lightning have become a nightmare to play instead of a day off. No-names Sean Bergenhiem, Nate Thompson and Teddy Purcell are the talk of NHL post game shows due to spectacular post season play. Lecavalier, dead for 4 seasons, transformed his game into an already point producer now with an addition of a strong defensive side. Finally, Stamkos and St. Louis are one of the scariest duos in the NHL. Coincidence? New ownership, GM, and personnel all contributed but a new coach most importantly, has changed this once proud franchise into a contender once again.

An opponent's nightmare, the 1-3-1 trap
